Service isn’t about the amount of sacrifices made. It’s not about how many changes I can make in those I’m serving. Who am I to say these changes need to be made? It’s not about developing the area I serve in. Why say that I would know best for a culture I just arrived at?
Is true service simply executing what I am asked to do? I don’t know.
I’ve learned one thing during this service – it’s about getting over myself.
True service is not development or it in any way organized. I disagree with the term Organizational Development in service work. Also, with sustainability. I argue that both are a way for a person wanting to fulfill a specific agenda in a controlled manner.
I am called an Outreach Worker here to provide a requested service. Anymore than that is an imposition as a guest in this country.

“We’re so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget that the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it’s all about.”
